Dancing Queen

This was one in a series of ‘how to’ videos the company made to celebrate Victorian traditions. It was created to tie in with Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee in 2012 – Queen Victoria was the only other British monarch to have reached this milestone – This particular film reveals how a special Morris Dance was created for the monarch in 1897.

How To Morris Dance Victorian Style

Historic Royal Palaces commissioned the film and we filmed the Hammersmith Morris Dancers at the Palace of Kew. Dressed in full traditional costume, the dancers show how to learn this complicated set of figures and steps to give people a very special and unique way to celebrate the Jubilee. This set of films was inspired by an exhibition at Kensington Palace (another of the Historic Royal Palaces), and were for their own use as a fun guide.
