The Elephant in The Room

The Royal Collection is one of the largest art collections in the world, and is owned by Queen Elizabeth II. This film tells the extraordinary story of a clockwork elephant created by Fabergé, the greatest Russian jeweller and goldsmith of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Until it was rediscovered in 2015, this tiny toy had been stored away for 80 years in a cabinet at Buckingham Palace.

Macro for Micro

These films are designed to give the public a new level of insight into some of the Collection’s most amazing artefacts. The elephant was a surprise gift inside a Fabergé Imperial Easter Egg and is only 6cm high. We filmed inside the Grand Room at Buckingham Palace and, given the elephant’s size, we used a macro lens that gave us beautiful, close-up shots including an enamel man sitting on the elephant’s head, and a pink and white enamel castle.
