How are we making video production more sustainable?
Reduce
We are working to reduce the amount of energy, fuel and materials that we consume as a video production agency.
Offset
We are members of a tree-planting scheme to offset any carbon we are not currently able to reduce.
Support
We support businesses and organisations that actively promote climate action, through discounts on our video production services.
STAYING MINDFUL OF THE IMPACT OF TRAVEL
As a video production agency, we consider the impact that our travel may have on the environment. When travelling to video shoots that do not necessitate a vehicle (ie for travel that does not require large amounts of video equipment) we favour public transport and train travel. For meetings, we promote the use of travel alternatives such as e-mail or video/phone conferencing. We are working to fully transition to electric vehicles by 2025.
WORKING WITH INTERNATIONAL VIDEO PRODUCERS
Chocolate Films has been operating a near-zero air travel policy for all video production since 2019 – only authorising flights if all other alternatives have been exhausted. We commission local videography teams for shoots that are outside the easy reach of our London, Glasgow and Berlin bases. This helps to reduce CO2 and help support creative filmmaking in the community. We have developed relationships with video production companies of a similar nature in more than 20 countries worldwide.
WE’RE MINDFUL OF OUR ENERGY AND WATER CONSUMPTION
As standard practice, we seek to reduce the amount of energy used as much as possible. Throughout our range of videography services, we have replaced all of our video lighting kits with LED lights to reduce energy use. In our offices, we have replaced all light bulbs with LEDs. Office lights and electrical equipment are switched off when not in use. Heating is adjusted with energy consumption in mind whilst energy consumption and efficiency of new products is taken into account when purchasing.
WHAT WE CAN’T REDUCE WHILST FILMING, WE OFFSET
We continue to monitor and reduce our environmental impact, but acknowledge that we still generate greenhouse gases in our day-to-day activities. To address this, we subscribe to a carbon offsetting scheme that plants 148 trees per year in brand new woodlands, addressing approximately 37tons of C02 per year. This is more than the total carbon generated by all of our business activities in our three sites. Learn more about the locations we operate from.
WE SUPPORT CLIENTS WHO WORK TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE
We want to help clients who are actively promoting sustainability. We therefore offer a discount of 10% for sustainable businesses across all of our services. This includes video production, animation projects and our live streaming service. We Are A Social Enterprise
In 2001, Rachel Wang and Mark Currie set up Chocolate Films with a clear social purpose. We now empower thousands of young people and vulnerable adults each year to be creative, through fun and accessible filmmaking experiences. By working with Chocolate Films, you invest in a new, diverse generation of filmmakers through Chocolate Films Workshops.
