New galleries looking back on 500 years of medicine and health
The Science Museum opened their new permanent exhibit ‘Medicine: The Wellcome Galleries’ in November 2019. Featuring more than 3,000 medical artefacts, artworks, interactive games and immersive experiences, the Galleries house the largest medical collection of its kind in the world. It takes visitors through Medicine’s fascinating history and explores human’s relationship with medicine and health today.
Chocolate Films helped the Science Museum showcase the faces, voices and stories of patients and practitioners in the Galleries through films.
Showing the reality of working for the NHS
The Chocolate Films team created a variety of video and audio pieces for the Galleries, which covered 3 different themes: the NHS, mental health and epidemics. This film is an atmospheric picture of a full day within our much valued and busy NHS. It captures the reality, with its highs and lows, of working for the UK’s often understaffed and underfunded healthcare system.
A crew of two filmmakers filmed from day to night a variety of practitioners in real-life scenarios at different NHS-run locations: Homerton Hospital, Adelaide Medical Centre, Mary Seacole Nursing Home and the London Ambulance Service. The film’s atmospheric feel is created with tracking shots through spaces and timelapses.
