A historic debate
Kindertransport was a nine-month operation to bring mainly Jewish children to the UK from Nazi Germany, Austria and Czechoslovakia prior to the outbreak of WWII.
To commemorate the 80th anniversary of British parliamentarians discussing the issue of bringing Jewish child refugees to Britain, on 21st November 2018 the debate was recreated at Speaker’s House. Sitting MPs including John Bercow, Luciana Berger and Yvette Cooper read out speeches from 1938.
A real sense of partnership
Following our long tradition of working with Jewish charities and heritage organisations, we were contacted by the Association of Jewish Refugees (AJR). We filmed the speeches and AJR sourced photos from 1938 to reinforce the link between the original debate and its recreation. Continuing our partnership with AJR, we have since made a film about two Kindertransport refugees (sourced through the charity) for our 1000 Londoners project.
