Dutch Paintings
For 500 years, British monarchs have collected Dutch paintings from the Golden Age of the seventeenth century. This short film tells the story of their changing fortunes; from the works by Rembrandt and others sold after Charles I’s execution, to the great restoration of art under Charles II, and the passionate collecting of George IV. It also tells the intriguing tale of a once misattributed and unappreciated painting that is now celebrated as one of Vermeer’s greatest masterpieces.
Behind the Production
Chocolate Films was commissioned to make this short film about the fascinating history of Dutch paintings. The production took place in summer 2015 across two different locations – Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.
