The Challenge Of Artist Teachers

‘Resist – Things Artists Do Whilst Learning to Teach’ is the culmination of a collaboration between artist teachers from the Art & Design PGCE course at the Institute of Education, University College London and the Freelands Foundation. Artist teachers in the Greater London were invited to reflect on their position in schools, investigate their new context, and make an artwork in response.

An Assertive Education Project

The outputs of the ‘Resist’ project include an exhibition, publication and documentary. “To be an art teacher is a political thing, it always will be, until society or the education system at large recognises the value of arts more widely,” is the powerful quote that kicks off the film. Feel like this speaks to you? Watch the film and live the experience of young art teachers, a Senior Lecturer and the supporting Freelands Foundation.
