Behind the scenes of the conservation of a masterpiece

Chocolate Films were commissioned to make a film about the The Reynolds Research Project – a major research project launched by The Wallace Collection to research and conserve its 12 magnificent Joshua Reynolds paintings. For a year, we followed on the conservation work taking place on Joshua Reynolds’ portrait of Nelly O’Brien, following the work of the Paintings Conservator of the Wallace Collection, Alexandra Gent.

Conservation Process

In this film Alexandra goes through the specific processes involved in painting conservation as she works in the conservation studio of the National Gallery. For a long time, it was the most viewed film on the Wallace Collection YouTube channel, and then came Sir Richard Wallace – The Collector.
