Dust kickers to the rescue
The National Lottery Heritage Fund organised a symposium – the ‘Heritage Soapbox’ – for 18 to 25 year old heritage ambassadors or ‘Dust Kickers’. The aim of the event was to encourage younger people to get involved in heritage by changing perceptions of what it entails. They discussed training, job opportunities, apprenticeships and more.
On your soapbox
The event was held at Hoxton Hall in east London, and the film includes excerpts of speeches and footage of a range of creative activities such as drawing and writing that were taking place. We filmed speakers, and leaders such as Liz Ellis (Policy Adviser Communities and Diversity at the NHLF) discussing what they do to engage people with their work. In interviews, young people explained why the event was helpful and a great resource for them.
