Thames Festival Trust aims to increase the appreciation of rivers and their importance to the public through creating and promoting river-related art, education and heritage programmes. The Trust’s key activity is the annual outdoor festival Totally Thames with tons of activities along the river in London.
Thames Festival Trust has commissioned Chocolate Films to document many artistic and creative projects. These have included a ‘reverse graffiti’ project where an artist used a waterjet to write TS Eliot’s ‘The Wasteland’ on the banks, the promotional film HippopoThames and a documentary uncovering the untold story of ‘The World’s Oldest Boat Race’.
Totally Thames takes place over the month of September and brings the river to life via an exciting season of arts, cultural and river events throughout the 42-mile stretch of the River Thames in London. As part of Totally Thames 2014, we documented renowned Dutch artist Florentijn Hofman as he created an extraordinary new sculpture that attracted attention from all over the world: an enormous wooden hippo.
VIEW PROJECTSince 1715, the Race for Doggett’s Coat and Badge has been contested by river workers on the Thames. It is thought to be the oldest continually competed sporting event in the world. However, little of the race had been documented… until now. With this film, Thames Festival Trust wants to celebrate Thomas Doggett’s history, keep the tradition alive and reveal the stories behind the people who race from London Bridge to Chelsea.
